About Lana Bolycheva

Lana is a Writer/Director based in Hoboken.

Lana Bolycheva is a filmmaker who crafts witty, smart, socially conscious comedies, blending serious themes with humor, often through science fiction and fantastical elements. She writes, directs, and produces films and video art and is currently based in the US.

An NYU Tisch Graduate Film alumna with a background in both Acting and Film Directing from Russia's top institutions, she brings a nuanced approach to working with actors, helping to create compelling, character-driven stories. Lana’s work includes the acclaimed Oscar-qualifying short films Let My Grandpa Into Heaven (which premiered at the Austin Film Festival), Parenthood 2050, and the documentary Kis.

She currently has several projects in development:

  • Dysphoria, a satirical thriller about an immigrant trapped in the Russian Embassy in New York, engulfed by bureaucratic machinery. This film continues Lana’s tradition of addressing contemporary issues through engaging and thought-provoking storytelling.

  • Viva La Menstruación!, a documentary that explores and celebrates the untold power and profound wisdom of menstruation. It uncovers the cultural, emotional, and physical layers of a natural cycle often misunderstood and stigmatized by modern society.
